Public Affairs
Flotilla 19 conducts Public Affairs
throughout the year by participating in many military and civilian
programs. Flotilla 19 participates in public speaking events at numerous
civic organizations such as The Optimist Club, Rotary Club, Navy League,
Red Hat Society and many school programs throughout the Bay County area.
Flotilla 19 has appeared on several
television and radio programs promoting National Safe Boating Week and
other Auxiliary Programs. Flotilla 19 has also conducted a live vessel
examination while broadcasting it on the radio. Flotilla 19 has two additional assets that are
very popular at public appearances; Coastie the Safety Boat and our
Educational Mobile Unit trailer (EMU).
Coastie, Flotilla 19's lovable little
robot boat that helps teach boating and water safety to young
children, is fully animated. Coastie moves, speaks, listens, blinks his eyes,
activates his lights, horns and plays music all by remote control. The
EMU Trailer is designed to open up on one side and display all sorts of
boating literature and safety devices. Both of these attractions are
manned by Auxiliarist who spred the word about boating safety and
U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.
Coastie and EMU have be attractions at
several events such as National Safe Boating Week at the State Park, Air
Show at Tyndall Air Force Base, Cops & Kids day, National Kid's Day,
Kid's Fishing Rodeo, Haney Child Development Center, Tyndall Child
Development Center, Bay Point Fishing Tournament, Natures Gallery Walk,
Bay Count Boat Show, Boy Scouts, Home Depots Kid's Day, and many other
civic functions.
